Moving on to the romance of Italy…Lake Como. We stayed in Varenna, a quaint little fishing village on the shores of the lake. It was surprisingly affordable, and had hands down the best food from our entire trip. I am now on a mission to learn how to make proper homemade pasta…
View of Varenna from the water:

Apparently the architecture is strictly controlled in this town, to the point that you can’t change the color of a building. But it makes sense when you see the effect that all the earth-toned buildings have collectively. It’s strikingly beautiful and perfectly Italian:

Ben snapped this picture of me at the end of a wonderfully romantic and delicious dinner. I was entering food-coma and wine-buzz big time right here. I love how this captures my state of pure relaxation and contentment:

Ridiculous. This is Ben, my husband :)

Not a bad view from our hotel balcony:

In Bellagio, a more fancy and touristy town across the lake:

Italy is special. It’s just SO ITALIAN. And it’s totally infectious. Being in Italy and around its people makes it impossible not to slow down and enjoy life’s pleasures. Our last night in Varenna was spent at a whole in the wall mom-and-pop restaurant. We decided to go all out Italian and actually eat like they eat: antipasta, primi, secondi, dulci…all the courses, and the wine (obviously). We took our sweet time- 3 hours to be exact- and just enjoyed each other, the food and wine, and the energy of those doing the same around us. I fell in love with Italy that night. (And here’s the visual proof- that’s a girl in love)

what an amazing twist on the wall-map!
