A little movie review
Ben and I watched The Impossible last night. I haven’t cried that hard during a movie in probably years … tears of horror and tears of joy. It was exhausting, but I loved the movie. Naomi Watts was a force of nature, and the young actor who played her eldest son gave the best performance of the movie.  Also, the little boys are so damn cute I could hardly stand it. One of the rotten...

Last week was rough. I didn’t know Jamie very well, but we did some work together and from the little I knew her, I really liked her. I learned about her death on Wednesday, and my 28th birthday was Thursday. Everyone was so nice, but all day I felt like I was floating along, going through the motions of being grateful and trying to absorb all the love and kindness I was receiving. Ben took...

WatchWatch
Sorry world, the best birthday greeting award goes to baby girl Mackenzie. Hands down. I’ve probably watched this 15 times! It makes me smile every time.

*praying for Jamie and Nation* It’s so, so sad how the worst things often happen to the very best people. We’re cheering for you, Jamie.

Carrying the Fire
“You have to carry the fire. I don’t know how to. Yes you do. Is it real? The fire? Yes it is. Where is it? I don’t know where it is. Yes you do. It’s inside you. It was always there. I can see it.” -Cormac McCarthy, The Road

What the what?
My friend Ashley is (currently) running the Boston Marathon. I just found out about the bombs. She’s still running so I think she’s fine. But my heart is breaking right now … *UPDATE* She’s safe. Thanking the lord and trying not to ugly cry at work.

Fed up with the NC General Assembly? Me too.
Recently, the NC General Assembly has upped the ante on crazy, and it’s pretty terrifying. As a proud and concerned North Carolinian, I got my Leslie Knope on this morning by speaking out against these proposed laws. It took ten minutes. Here’s who I emailed:  1. US Congressman David Price (representative for NC’s 4th congressional district) 2. NC Senator Ellie Kinnaird...

Long Weekend in my Mountains
This weekend was filled with things I love: birthdays, babies, friends, family, delicious meals and plenty of laughter. It was also filled with a crazy-ass marathon in freezing temps that gave my husband a briefly scary case of “mild hypothermia” … spoiler: he’s fine :) Friday night and Saturday morning were spent in a cozy Black Mountain rental house to celebrate...
